What it costs to build a web site.
Building a web site involves three distinct and usually separate creative disciplines: designing, writing and programming.
Hourly rates for each discipline range from £35 - £80+ depending on whether you're using freelancers, or a web design company. (The chances are, that the latter will always cost more than the former.)
If you need photographs taking, then the daily rate for a photographer is between £300 - £500+. It is possible however to buy 'stock' or general images for as little $1.00 each - here's a source to check out.
Other costs include purchasing your web site’s name (£10) and paying for your web site to sit on a computer somewhere; budget between £30 - £75 a year depending on whether your site is a brochure site or an e-commerce site.

To give you an idea...
It is possible to have a simple, 4-6 page brochure-style web site designed, written and built for as little as £350 - £700. You'd get a very basic site and any photography or special graphics that might need producing, such as a logo design, or a location map for example would be £500 - £700 extra.
Sorry to say, but e-commerce sites are much more difficult to cost.
Although the writing and design costs are pretty much the same as a brochure site, the programming side is more time-intensive. Just to give you an idea, a relatively uncomplicated e-commerce site with an order form and/or a shopping cart for example, will cost between £3,000 and £6,000+.
